Empowering Positive Youth
Funded by Ryan White Part D
EPY supports youth who were born with HIV and youth who have acquired HIV. EPY Peer Navigators function from a social supportive role. Peer Navigators are HIV+ mentors for 12-24 year-old clients. Key services include:
- youth support groups
- therapeutic and educational groups
- ensuring that clients have access to:
- physician & medications
- housing and mental health services
The program provides youth specific community education with a young persons’ speakers’ bureau.
EPY has documented phenomenal success with medical outcomes compared to national statistics and is well known throughout North Carolina. Recently EPY began working with UNC-Chapel Hill on an online Intervention for gay/bisexual African American men and Transgender women ages 18-30 called healthMpowerment.
EPY works closely with area pediatric and adult HIV medical clinics to ensure our clients transition from pediatric care to adult care is seamless and no youth "falls through the cracks."
