RAIN's PrEP Program is a new HIV prevention strategy that puts the power of prevention in the hands of HIV negative people. PrEP means Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, and uses medication to reduce the risk of contracting HIV. The PrEP counselor links the client to a prescribing PrEP Physician, assists with overcoming financial barriers to obtaining medication, and implements risk reduction techniques to continually work towards behavior modification. Once the client begins PrEP, the counselor follows up quarterly to verify their HIV negative status and conduct one of the various interventions aimed at ongoing risk reduction.
