The Dan Mauney Legacy Fund honors the work of longtime RAIN volunteer, LGBTQ activist, and true legacy Dan Mauney. Dan was a powerhouse of energy, drive, and brilliance. He is widely known in Charlotte and beyond for his pioneering advocacy, passion for connecting and welcoming newcomers, and making sure LGBTQ people have a supportive environment.
He brought people together in the service of others and spearheaded numerous initiatives and fundraisers on behalf of RAIN, Human Rights Campaign, and Time Out Youth. When Dan died in July 2020, he left family and hundreds of grieving friends who cherish his leadership and friendship.
Shelly Schoenfeld and Twirl to the World Foundation founders Zuni Johnson and Jason McCraw generously provided $20,000 to initiate the fund. They challenge all who wish to honor Dan to match their gifts. In the spirit of Dan’s commitment to helping others, this fund will support essential RAIN client services: rent, utilities, food, transportation, and healthcare.
To be a part of Dan's legacy you can make a one-time gift, monthly, quarterly or annual gift in his honor and in return for joining the inaugural year you will receive a Dan Mauney Legacy Fund lapel pin and have your name listed as a donor.
